Reforestation Day in La Terronera with Elementary School Students

July 23, 2024

A reforestation day was held with the participation of 34 students from the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades and 2 teachers from Lázaro Cardenas del Río Elementary School, located in the town of Santiago de Pinos, in the municipality of San Sebastián del Oeste, Jalisco. The event was supported by the Environmental Department of TPM.

The event began with a visit to the forest nursery of the La Terronera project, where the children received a detailed explanation of the process of producing native trees. This process starts with the collection and extraction of seeds and continues with planting, germination, transplanting, and bagging the plants until they reach their ideal state for planting.

The children were also informed that the plants produced in this nursery would be used in reforestation efforts to restore areas where trees have been lost, contributing to a healthier and more balanced environment. During the visit, the participants learned and practiced how to plant a tree, with each student having the opportunity to plant their own pine tree.

The event concluded with a gathering featuring the new mascot of the La Terronera Project, and the participants were given souvenirs and refreshments.
