Sharing the Tradition of Rosca de Reyes with the Santiago de los Pinos Community
As part of the Terronera Project’s commitment to preserving and promoting Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Community Relations team brought the traditional Rosca de Reyes to elementary schools in the Santiago de los Pinos community. This tradition, which originated in the 14th century, was introduced to Mexico by Spanish conquistadors and is celebrated on January 6th to mark the Epiphany, commemorating the visit of the Three Wise Men to Baby Jesus.
Children, teenagers, and school staff eagerly participated in the Rosca de Reyes tradition, which involves cutting a piece of the “rosca” (round bread) and searching for the hidden figurine representing Baby Jesus. Proyecto Terronera employees crowned the students who found the figurine, symbolizing the Three Wise Men, making this celebration an even more special experience.
